NEW GENETIC ANALYZER ESPECIALLY USEFUL FOR ANALYZING HUMAN REMAINS

BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 10 /SRNA/ - A new genetic analyzer is now operational at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Republika Srpska, which will be of great use, especially in the analysis of human remains from memorial ossuaries in Republika Srpska, Director of the Institute Željko Karan told SRNA.

Karan stated that using this additional device for genetic analysis will enhance the Institute’s daily operations. He stated that the device was delivered to the Institute, installed, configured, and test analyses have been performed. "The analyzer is now fully operational," Karan said. He pointed out that the Institute did not have sufficient funds in its budget to purchase the new genetic analyzer, so it turned to the Office of the President of Republika Srpska, which provided the necessary funding. "Thanks to these funds, the device was purchased," Karan said. The Institute of Forensic Medicine of Republika Srpska has been operating since 2009, providing services to judicial institutions in Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH, and countries in the region. The Institute also includes a forensic anthropology laboratory equipped with advanced technology for the analysis of skeletal remains. The DNA analysis laboratory has advanced technology for forensic DNA testing, applicable in both criminal court cases and civil paternity cases. In early June, the Forensic Toxicology Laboratory was opened within the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka.
