MLADIĆ'S HEALTH CONDITION REMAINS POOR
BELGRADE, DECEMBER 9 /SRNA/ - The health condition of General Ratko Mladić, who has been bedridden for months in the detention hospital in Scheveningen, remains poor, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA.
"The General is still immobile and confined to his bed, with the same problems. Nothing has changed, everything is the same, and we have no information that his condition has worsened. Based on what we see during our visits, it appears unchanged," Darko Mladić said, adding that the General was recently visited by his grandson. He stated that the family has not received any new information from the Hague medical staff, nor has there been anything new regarding his therapy. The former Commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, General Ratko Mladić, suffers from neurological, cardiovascular, and urological issues, as well as from bedsores. He is immobile and confined to his bed and wheelchair. General Mladić has suffered several strokes and one heart attack while in detention in The Hague, and in 2024 a pacemaker was implanted in a Dutch hospital. His condition then continued to deteriorate, and his kidneys failed. Since April 2024, he has been in the detention hospital in Scheveningen, bedridden and in a wheelchair, and has been transferred to palliative care. According to doctors, he has only a few months to live. The defense and family have repeatedly requested that he be allowed medical treatment in Serbia, but all requests were denied by the court in The Hague, which maintains that General Mladić's health condition is stable and that he is receiving adequate care in the detention center. Court documents from July 2025 state that, although General Mladić's condition is "unstable," he continues to receive comprehensive care, and that humanitarian grounds are not sufficiently substantiated to justify his release. General Mladić was arrested on May 26, 2011, in the village of Lazarevo near Zrenjanin after nearly 16 years in hiding, and was subsequently transferred to The Hague, where on June 8, 2021, he was finally sentenced to life imprisonment.
