VULIĆ: ABOLISHING FUEL EXCISE COULD ENDANGER FINANCIAL STABILITY
SARAJEVO, MARCH 14 /SRNA/ – Head of the SNSD Club in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Sanja Vulić told SRNA that SNSD will not support the proposal to abolish or reduce fuel excise duties, because instant solutions to complex problems can lead to serious consequences for the financial stability of institutions and the functioning of BiH.
Vulić said that the proposal by SDP MP Saša Magazinović to abolish or reduce fuel excise duties, which he submitted into parliamentary procedure, is a classic example of populist policy aimed not at long-term problem solving but at paving the way for an election campaign. "Instead of a serious and responsible approach to economic challenges, we are once again witnessing attempts to collect cheap political points through attractive but ill-considered measures," Vulić said. She pointed out that Magazinović is already known for offering instant solutions to complex problems without serious analysis of the consequences such decisions may have on the financial stability of institutions and the functioning of BiH. "Unfortunately, it seems that the long-term effects of such proposals do not concern him," Vulić stated. She noted that SNSD will not support such adventurism, because abolishing or significantly reducing fuel excise duties would directly threaten the stability of the budget at the BiH level and could potentially jeopardize the regular servicing of institutional obligations, including the payment of salaries to employees and other financial commitments. Vulić stressed that responsible policy implies making decisions that are sustainable and do not endanger the financial stability of the system, rather than short-term moves that may sound good in a pre-election atmosphere but could produce serious negative consequences.
