DOBOJ FORTRESS WALLS CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE
DOBOJ, APRIL 2 /SRNA/ – A section of the walls of the medieval Doboj Fortress is further collapsing, and the competent institutions have been urged to take urgent action, as this is an important cultural and historical heritage site of Republika Srpska and a national monument of BiH, the Doboj Tourist Organization said.
Representatives of the Tourist Organization conducted an inspection on March 30 and documented the condition of the site with photographs, after which letters requesting urgent action were sent to all relevant republican institutions and city authorities. “Given its status as a national monument, any further work on the fortress requires approval and expert guidance,” the statement said. As noted, the request for urgent action was sent to the line ministries, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage of Republika Srpska and the Republika Srpska Inspectorate Administration. The Tourist Organization stressed that it has taken all available measures within its competence, is actively monitoring the situation at the site and visitor safety, and remains available for any form of cooperation aimed at protecting this cultural and historical heritage. The Regional Museum in Doboj previously told SRNA that the walls are significantly statically compromised and that there has been a collapse on the eastern rampart, noting that almost nothing has been done on conservation since 1970, except for certain works that are questionable and should be removed. In 2005, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH designated the architectural ensemble "Old Town Doboj in Doboj", which includes the Gradina fortress, as a national monument.
