SEVERE WEATHER CAUSES MILLIONS IN DAMAGE
NEVESINJE, JULY 22 /SRNA/ - A severe storm accompanied by hail caused millions in damage in Nevesinje, according to initial information from the field, Mayor Milenko Avdalović told SRNA.
Avdalović said the greatest damage was caused to agriculture, followed by vehicles, while the hardest-hit settlements were Lapčevine, Bojišta, Batkovići and Bratač. The Municipal Emergency Situations Headquarters held a meeting this morning, and Avdalović said that a commission would go into the field today and begin assessing the damage. "According to information we have received from the field, yesterday's severe weather caused millions in damage. It will be difficult, but we must address our citizens' problems and help people with the support of the Government of Republika Srpska. We will find a way to help farmers so that they can continue their agricultural production," Avdalović said. He said that a desk had also been opened at the Municipal Social Centre in Nevesinje for reporting damage. He added that today he would visit the areas that suffered the most severe consequences of the storm together with Republika Srpska Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Anđelko Kuzmić. A severe storm accompanied by hailstones the size of walnuts, and in some areas even the size of chicken eggs, hit Nevesinje yesterday at around 6:00 p.m., causing extensive material damage to crops, orchards, vehicles and other facilities.
