BOSNIAKS KILLED A 106-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AT A CAMP NEAR BIHAĆ; THE WORLD MUST KNOW ABOUT THIS

BELGRADE, JULY 24 /SRNA/ - Serb woman Boja Kenjalo from the Bihać village of Račak was 106 years old when she was killed at the Luka prison camp in Bihać and was likely the oldest detainee in history, something the public should finally learn, Milivoje Ivanišević, director of the Institute for Research into Serbian Suffering in the 20th Century, told SRNA.

"Serb suffering is unimaginable to the human mind. Imagine bringing an elderly woman of that age to a camp and killing her there. She was brought on foot from her village of Račak. Her fate and the desire to erect a dignified memorial to her and other women who suffered have haunted me for years," Ivanišević said. Ivanišević said that Boja's son Mihajlo Kenjalo /born in 1909/, who himself was already an elderly man at the time of his death in October 1994, was also killed at the Luka camp, along with Marko Gogić /born in 1923/ and Milka Gajić /born in 1914/. "We have everything related to this case, including statements from Serb witnesses and the names of those responsible for this camp. They are Kemal Klokić, Kemal Lipovača and a certain Fikret," Ivanišević said. Ivanišević, who has spent years researching camps for Serbs in BiH, said he is ready at any time to provide U.S. investigators currently visiting Posavina with the documentation he has on this and other Bosniak and Croat prison camps for Serbs. Speaking about the camps in Posavina, which are now in the spotlight due to the arrival of U.S. investigators, Ivanišević said that 91 such camps have been registered and that they were established at the very beginning of the war, modelled after the concentration camps for Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia /NDH/. "In the camp in the village of Poljan near Derventa, which was under the authority of Croatian military forces, the required form of address for detainees when speaking to guards was 'Mr Ustasha'. The prisoners were exclusively Serbs from the Derventa municipality. They were subjected to daily abuse and forced labor," Ivanišević said. He said that for this camp, as well as for all the other camps he has researched, he has a list of the names of the direct perpetrators. "We have the names of interrogators, guards, torturers, killers, those responsible for the arrests, managers and shift commanders," Ivanišević said. Speaking about the Rabić camp, which was under the command of Zlatko Majić and whose former detainees are giving statements to U.S. investigators, Ivanišević said that prisoners lived in their own excrement, were tortured and forced to dig trenches. "The detainees who were digging trenches escaped on June 19, 1992, and on the same day there was a reprisal against the remaining workers. They were executed at the Spomenik site, where they had been assigned to forced labor that day," Ivanišević said. According to his information, those executed that day were Nenad Panzalović, Savo Pavlović, Željko and Rade Bokur, Dragan Grbić, Miro Jovičić, Vujadin Ljubojević and Milorad Gunjević, while seven detainees managed to survive by escaping through crossfire. Ivanišević pointed out that his documentation on camps for Serbs in BiH also includes a report by a commission that examined some of the surviving detainees. The commission consisted of professors from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, two forensic medicine specialists and a psychiatrist. "They examined these people and determined that there was no evidence that the victims of torture had exaggerated their suffering and abuse. They found that the detainees had tried to forget their humiliating and painful experiences. We must never forget these people," Ivanišević concluded.
