NOGO: CHILD'S KILLER WALKING FREELY PROVES THAT BiH JUDICIARY IS DISGRACE

BELGRADE, AUGUST 5 /SRNA/ – Professor of international criminal law Sreto Nogo told SRNA that allowing Elfeta Veseli to use out-of-prison privileges sends the message that there is no justice in BiH, that the judicial system is not functioning, and that no one can feel legally safe when the perpetrator of such a brutal child murder walks freely.

Nogo said that the judiciary of BiH is mocking criminal law and established legal principles. "I would like to know what the authorities are trying to say with this. Are they saying that anyone who takes another person's life can do whatever they want, kill whomever they want without being held accountable? Is that the message? Where does that lead?" Nogo asked. He said that even if one were to disregard the nationality of Elfeta Veseli's victim - the boy Slobodan Stojanović, the fundamental issue remains that a child was murdered while the executor has been almost rewarded. "A child is a child - whether Serb, Croat, Muslim, Black or White. Anyone who kills a child should face the harshest and most severe punishment. The same applies to the rape of a child," Nogo said. He argued that Veseli's treatment demonstrates that there is neither the rule of law nor a functioning judiciary in BiH. "It means we should all fear encountering such a lunitic, because no one has legal security. What kind of legal security do we have? None, when the killer of a child can move about freely," he said. He stressed that in such BiH, one could expect Veseli to be granted a new identity once her prison sentence expires. He also pointed out that Slobodan Stojanović was not the only Serb child whose case has been left without justice being served. "These days, as we remember the Petrovac Road tragedy, we must also remember the children killed in that crime. There were calls for BiH to sue Croatia over that crime. Of course, they will never do so because they do not want to open Pandora's box, as they would also have to accept indirect responsibility. Their hands are not clean in that criminal act either, there is no chance that case will be opened," Nogo concluded. The Tuzla Penitentiary confirmed to SRNA that Elfeta Veseli, the killer of 12-year-old boy Slobodan Stojanović, has been using out-of-prison privileges since September 2024. Veseli was initially sentenced by the Court of BiH to 10 years in prison for the brutal killing of Slobodan Stojanović. The Appellate Division of the same court later increased the sentence to 13 years' imprisonment after reclassifying the offense as a war crime against the civilian population. She has been in custody since September 2016, and her full sentence is scheduled to expire in 2029.
