CVIJANOVIĆ: BiH NEEDS TO RETURN TO ITSELF, WHICH MEANS DISSOLVING PIC AND ABOLISHING BONN POWERS
ZAGREB, DECEMBER 12 /SRNA/ - The Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović stated that it is necessary for BiH to enter a phase of returning to itself, which means dissolving the Peace Implementation Council, abolishing the Bonn Powers, restoring competencies to domestic institutions, and clearing out legislation that is not in line with democratic principles.
"When it comes to dissolving the Peace Implementation Council, in the first phase this would mean including only the countries that are signatories and guarantors of the Dayton Agreement – a small circle of states that would lead us out of the forest we are currently in," Cvijanović said in Zagreb at the international conference "Thirty Years After Dayton: Opening the Path to Local Solutions." She pointed out that clearing out legislation could be done in cooperation with the EU. "We need to examine what has been enacted that is not in line with democratic principles, which stipulate that laws should be made by democratic institutions competent to do so under the Constitution," Cvijanović said. She emphasized that a serious discussion about the future of BiH can provide many answers. "In doing so, everyone needs to temper their political ambitions and understand that the state is based on compromise, that it was created this way, and that only in this way can it survive," Cvijanović said.
